laura suffers...really, she does

Wow! No one is suffering more than Laura Bush and our President, according to her.

Atrios rams the MSM with this point: imagine a First Lady Hillary Clinton making that statement under similar circumstances and imagine the media reaction.

Right... and I thought Laura's plight might be considered a little newsy but CNN thinks Rosie leaving "The View" is more important.
Oh, and Sheryl Crow can only spare a square...

America, Fuck Yeah!

Update: Just noticed the headline bout the Trooper shooting. Catskills Manhunt is hard core!

from a distance

I am holding my breath waiting for Pat Robertson, Weather Prophet, to exclaim on his little show how God is speaking to us through recent meteorological events. Though, this time, its not the Big Easy God hath smote. It's a seal hunt.

Can this be more poetic? More epic in scale?
The shifting ice pack trapped nearly 100 long-line fishing boats as the crews were engaged in the annual hunt for seals on ice floes this month.
God is watching us, Pat, and he is pissed... but probably not at gay people on the teevee.

someone else said it so i don't have to

This post is neither about pop nor tarts. Discuss.

I guess it falls under "and more" but it is way out of sync with the chipper tone of deniable plausibility. For that I apologize.

The Virginia Tech shootings are horrible. Things should have been different.

From Salon:
As humans do, we try to ensure that this awful spectacle of death was not for nothing. Hence our national soul-searching and debate. How could this happen? Is our society somehow to blame? Our values? Our gun laws? What could we have done differently to save this tortured soul?

But half a world away, similar horrors are happening every day -- horrors, unlike Seung-Hui Cho's slaughter, for which America bears direct responsibility. And we feel nothing.

The situation in Iraq is horrible. Things should have been different.

50 states

Now leaving the 48th state, Arizona. Heading home to much warmer weather than when I left...YAY!!

It was a chilly day off yesterday, but got some sun (too much) and some exercise (not enough) but looking forward to a renewed participation in a sport best played with 2, not 3.

Tennis anyone?

the spider king

Um... dunno bout this:
Get ready for "Spider-Man: The Broadway Musical."

That may not be the official title, but Marvel Studios is putting the pieces together for a musical on the Great White Way starring the popular superhero.

Julie Taymor, who won Tonys for direction and costume design for the Broadway production of "The Lion King," will direct, with U2's Bono and the Edge creating new music and lyrics for the project.
Julie Taymor certainly has a good track record, but I'm not sure I am ready for rousing, angsty songs such as: "Somethings Changed in Me", "MJ! MJ!" and "I've Made a Sticky Mess of Things".... not to mention over-produced chorus numbers: "The Neighborhood", "J. Johah Jameson" and "Spider Sense".

Will someone please tell Madonna to stop, please, adopting little black children from poor countries?

or Don't Tell Her to stop for that matter.

Dear M: You can't save em all. Really! And... um... you got a couple brats already... oooww... I'm sorry!

Post title attributed to Lourdes, at age 7.

when the universe reels

I realize a post about "The Trolley Song" may jeopardize my "100% straight DUDE" status, but I've got to sing, sing out loud, gurl! With the help of my iPod...

What a joy in life is "The Trolley Song" as sung by Judy Garland in Meet Me In St. Louis, a film, well, about silliness mostly, but technicolor silliness as only a musical can sell, directed by her future husband, literal (& figurative) friend-of-Dorothy, Vincente Minelli.

Kudos to the NY Times for having this 1944 review online:
[ ] is mostly a straight family lark, covering a year of rare activity in a house heavily peopled with girls. And, as such, it is fraught with such dilemmas as are peculiar to that fair, bewildering tribe.
(That "fair, bewildering tribe"!?!? Tee hee! English done come a long way in 60 years, yo!)

Who can't relate to the song, a story in itself, of innocent first sight love on mass transport, with playful lyrics by Ralph Blane?
With my high-starched collar, and my high-topped shoes
And my hair piled high upon my head,
I went to lose a jolly hour on the Trolley and lost my heart instead.
Video of "The Trolley Song" is nowhere to be found on the internets so I assume someone at MGM is doing their job. Too bad. It was famously shot in one take with a barely coherent starlet and is simply fabulous (to further jeopardize my Kinsey rating;).

I guess I'll have to wait for my next trip to super straight Showtunes Night to again enjoy its visual splendor.

political prostitution on fox? NO!

Wow... this is um... quite the exchange.

Money quote:
There's only one whore on this split-screen and it's you
On another note...MM's got probably the most annoying voice ever.

Oh yeah... INTERNMENT ROCKS!

american idols

The picture is fake, but a boy can dream, right? Girls can too, apparently, since it was one named Melissa who worked the Photoshop fantasy above.

This is my second post about a show I claim to not care about and whose demise I have danced for since Jennifer Hudson didn't make the top five back in season 3.

I have seen both Blake and Chris perform (yes, I know them all on a fucking first name basis) and Blake may be the one to beat this year. Chris, I was disappointed by, but honestly, who cares? Look at him!

Are you looking at him!?!?
