The Invisible Touch album is one of a few instances where i am able to tolerate Phil Collins' vocals. The radio friendly pop songs are thankfully balanced with decent instrumentations and thoughtful lyrics. Su su sudio!
I remember long agoQuestion for lyrics writer, Mike Rutherford (and Collins cuz he sang the dang words): What exactly did your generation put the fuck right? The 1986 song and memorable video (remember nancy and ron in bed?) sings of out of control leaders and greed and promises a new direction and maybe revolution. Where are those promises now? Its been 20 years...why are we still singing this song Mike? Phil?
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago
I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep
Too many men
There's too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Cant you see
This is a land of confusion.
I know...they're just bloody pop stars. But if you put the words out there, I expect something more than another botox reunion tour. Dare to dream right?
